Munsell Color System. (X parte). Grigi di Frank Reilly
Fino ad ora abbiamo analizzato la teoria di Munsell da un punto di vista teorico, in alcuni post abbiamo anche provato a dare delle ricette per due colori Y e YR per i colori ad acquarello Venezia. Quello che ora vogliamo fare è saltare dalla teoria alla pratica utilizzando i suggerimenti di uno degli artisti che probabilmente ha utilizzato e insegnato questa tecnica: Frank Reilly.
Come primo passo bisogna creare una scala di grigi utilizzando solo due colori: bianco titanio e nero avorio.
Frank Reilly suggeriva ai suoi studenti le seguenti proporzioni:
tono 0 = nero avorio
tono 1 = 1 parte bianco titanio + 5 parti nero avorio
tono 2 = 1 parte bianco titanio + 2 parti nero avorio
tono 3 = 1 parte bianco titanio + 1 parti nero avorio
tono 4 = 2 parte bianco titanio + 1 parti nero avorio
tono 5 = 4 parte bianco titanio + 1 parti nero avorio
tono 6 = 1 parte bianco titanio + 5 parti tono 5
tono 7 = 1 parte bianco titanio + 2 parti tono 6
tono 8 = 1 parte bianco titanio + 2 parti tono 7
tono 9 = 1 parte bianco titanio + 1 parti tono 8
tono 10 = 1 parte bianco titanio
Per mescolare queste parti suggerisco di utilizzare la spatola. Io, personalmente, uso sempre la spatola per mischiare i colori per un motivo semplice, i colori mescolati sembrano meno sporchi. La domanda che mi sono posto la prima volta che ho iniziato a sperimentare questa tecnica è stata: ma ogni volta che dipingo devo preparare queste 10 mescolanze? Non è troppo laborioso?
In realtà si, ma tutto dipende dalla dimestichezza anche se non è necessario essere precisi come dei chimici.
In realtà, un buon metodo è quello di mescolare una volta per tutte i toni: 2, 4, 6 e 8; e metterli nei tubetti vuoti che vendono nei negozi di belle arti. Io personalmente uso le siringhe, che hanno anche le scale graduate e mi permettono anche una certa precisione.
Se ci fate caso le proporzioni di Frank Reilli sono fatte in modo tale che mischiando il 50% del tono 2 e 50% tono 4 si ottiene esattamente il tono 3. Questo è vero per tutti i toni intermedi: 1, 3, 5, 7 e 9.

There is a website that teaches you how to create the color for each Munsell Chip. Graydon Parrish is the teacher. You apply to be a member. It is free. There is a list of all the Munsell Notations and the correct tubes of oil paint to use to create the notation. I can send to you, if they do not let you join. Do let tell them that I send them all to you.

Here is the website. Maybe you can post the exercises that he has you do. You paint cubes and wooden balls, make color charts based on the munsell color wheel. I already know these website. I have read them many times. There are aother sites like learningtosee etc. These website explain single excercise for example to get 5YR 6/4. I would like to read more details on Graydon method and get the formula he used to get all 800 colors.
Do you have a website explaining this?
